Spring Cleaning

by Laura James, Fairmont Agency

Spring is here!! Spring is here!! Spring is here!!

We love spring, we love the sunshine, the fresh flowers, the baby animals, we love it all!! Well except maybe the daunting sounding task of spring cleaning. Friends, I am the first to admit that cleaning is not my favorite thing in the world. I love to organize, but cleaning? Not so much. Every year when spring cleaning time rolls around, I think that this year will be different, but no I never find the time, patience or interest in getting that full home deep clean. My goal with this blog post is to give you a simple and effective spring cleaning checklist and some tips to make this a bit more fun!!

TIME

Spring cleaning can be a time consuming process and if you are anything like me I get easily distracted by other people (especially the kid), so I suggest planning this for a weekend day when nothing is going on, and you’ll have the whole day to clean and organize top to bottom. Even better, see if you can make plans for the non-cleaning members of your house, so they are out of the house and out of your way.

MUSIC

Cleaning (like real cleaning cleaning) is something I have to really get in the zone for. So I love to crank up the tunes and turning cleaning into a cleaning dance party (isn't it amazing how you can remember all the words to your favorite song from a million years ago, but not what you ate yesterday?!?!)

PREPARATION

There is nothing worse then getting ready to clean the oven only to realize that you were supposed to spay the cleaner on the night before - and you don't even have any oven cleaner in the house to attempt the 2-hour soak option. To prepare for your spring cleaning make sure you have all of your cleaning supplies ready to go. As it turns out that Target run that happens mid-clean turns always seems to turn into that 2-hour wonder every isle just to see what they have shopping day - because target is just more fun that cleaning.

DE-CLUTTER

Spring cleaning is a perfect opportunity to rid your home of the “stuff” you can live without. So before you even start the cleaning, break out the trash bags and start filling them with items your family has outgrown or no longer needs. If you don’t love it or use it, toss it!! Donate items that can be reused by a family in need and trash anything that is broken and serves no purpose.

TO-DO LIST

If your anything like me you LOVE to check something off a check-list (I have been guilty of creating checklists just to check things off it). Even if you are not an obsessive checker, creating a to-do list is a great way to keep track of everything you want to do, to organize your time and keep track of what may still need to be done. We at Fairmont Agency have created a checklist of spring cleaning essentials to help get you ready for your big spring clean!! For a free copy of the Spring Cleaning Checklist click HERE.
